Quinoa

Quinoa, it’s one of my favorite go to grains.  It’s quick and easy to make, it’s very versatile, it’s tasty, and it’s a good source of plant protein.

 

I keep quinoa on hand as a staple pantry item at my house.  There are different kinds of quinoa as well  There is red, black, and white.  Each kind has a slightly different flavor.  Try them all to see which you prefer.  Quinoa is a great option for your meal plan.  It’s has many great benefits and can be used in various dishes.  A few of the benefits of quinoa are as follows:  it is a good plant protein, it’s a good source of fiber, it’s a complex carbohydrate, and it’s a good source of vitamins and minerals.

This is a food that you can make ahead of time and keep in the refrigerator to use throughout the week.  You can use it in salads, soups, stirfry, breakfast dishes, burrito bowls, and much more.

It is easy and quick to prepare.  You boil to 2 cups of water to 1 cup of quinoa for about 15-20 minutes until tender and liquid is absorbed.   You can also use broth instead of water to add a different flavor.

I love adding quinoa to my salad.  It add protein and extra flavor.  Quinoa breakfast bowls are a great way to start the day as well.  Check out the apple cinnamon quinoa bowl at this link:

If you are dairy free, just omit the cheese.

There are so many great recipes out there that use quinoa.  Start trying some new things today.  Add this delicious and healthy food staple into your meal plan.
