Kids health is so important and even moreso today. Your child/children need help making healthy choices each day. They start this life depending on us as mothers to supply their every need. They need us to help them make healthy choices as they grow up.
Why is it important to feed our children healthy foods? What happens when we don’t feed our children healthy foods? Well, keep reading and you will understand the importance of “why” it is so important.
Today’s media is bombarding our children with foods that look fun, but aren’t healthy. Kids today are eating an alarming amount of junk food. There are consequences to the choices we make. There are good consequences as well as bad ones depending on the type of food we eat. Junk food diets are associated with serious health problems.
The U.S. Centers for disease control research agency that tracks health trends in America, warns that unless American families change the way they eat and live, one in three children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes. I don’t know about you, but I think that is a statistic that is very sobering. Diabetes alone is enough to process, but when a person has diabetes, it increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, foot and leg amputations, pregnancy complications, and death related to influenza and pneumonia. Now with covid, that is another increased risk as diabetes puts a person in the high risk category for covid.
So as we see children eating unhealthy:
- Kids are getting sicker.
- Kids are becoming sadder.
According to Dr. Sears, approximately 10% of school-age children are now labeled as having A.D.D. or various other types of learning disabilities. We want to feed growing brains food that is nutrient dense to enhance brain health and nutrient dense foods promote healthy brain development. Our bodies function better when they are well nourished. I have seen children as well as adults see improvements in their mood and behavior by making dietary changes. One of my favorite quotes is from Hippocrates and it’s really simple, “FOOD IS MEDICINE.”
