Cold and Flu Prevention

It’s that time of year… the common cold and the flu tend to be getting around this time of year.  No one likes to be sick and no one really has time to be sick.  However, sometimes we get run down and pick up germs and our bodies can’t fight them off.

Colds and flu are no fun.  You may feel run down, have a runny nose, sneezing, body aches, fever, etc.  Colds and flu generally take 7-10 days to recover from, so you want to do your best to prevent them.

What can you do to prevent illness?

Build your immune system by eating a healthy diet.  Choose nutrient dense foods and lots of leafy greens.  I’m a big fan of Juice Plus in addition to a healthy diet, as it allows us to get extra fruits and veggies in our diets daily.  Get plenty of sleep, 7-8 hours a night.  Take extra vitamin C.  Drink plenty of water, aim for 100oz. per day.  Take time to rest and de-stress.  Taking a probiotic can keep our good bacteria count in our gut up which will be beneficial in fighting illness.  There are also some great herbal teas out there to help build your immunity, echinacea tea is one of them.  Essential oils are another beneficial option for preventing colds a flu’s.  Some of my favorites are Purify, Onguard, Breathe, Melaleuca, Oregano, and Lemon.  They are great to diffuse or use topically.  There are some great wellness supplements that are helpful in cold and flu prevention as well.  And of course, wash your hands to prevent spreading germs.

We are all busy, so take time to rest, and to take care of your body especially this time of year.  Many blessings and good health to you are your family.

Until next time…stay healthy!
